Instagram Vol.4/Travel

Instagram images of my recent travels: (Diptych 1: flying over farm land and a cabin in the Mississippi Delta. Diptych 2 and 4: hikes in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. Diptych 3: images from New York.)

I am at my finest when I travel and if I go too long without exploration I start to feel stuffy and stagnant. These are only a few small adventures I've had over the past few months, but they have helped to keep me sane.  I guess you could say I'm a bit of a Traveling Gnome wannabe :)

Drew this up the other day. A new logo inspires new ideas. Change is good. :)

With the first frost, this past weekend, J and I woke and drove into the mountains to catch the early light. It was a short break but as we drove under that giant mountain, and into the gorge, it was as if we passed through some secret passage- into the another world.
I am not being faithful to this place, and my photos, and so I am not faithful to myself. I am full of shameful excuses but non will do. Lets hope I am getting better. I am ready to be myself again.

"Can you tell us the place where the Elders chew the sky soft, the place where love is like a perfect knee-quilled arrow, flown from bows of pure willow. And under the thundering roll of ghost buffalo- Oh, can’t you hear the world’s heart breaking"

The Swamp//The River//And Me

“I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful future beckoned and winked. One fig was a husband and a happy home and children, and another fig was a famous poet and another fig was a brilliant professor, and another fig was Ee Gee, the amazing editor, and another fig was Europe and Africa and South America, and another fig was Constantin and Socrates and Attila and a pack of other lovers with queer names and offbeat professions, and another fig was an Olympic lady crew champion, and beyond and above these figs were many more figs I couldn't quite make out. I saw myself sitting in the crotch of this fig tree, starving to death, just because I couldn't make up my mind which of the figs I would choose. I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest, and, as I sat there, unable to decide, the figs began to wrinkle and go black, and, one by one, they plopped to the ground at my feet.”

Film from the Ocoee River in Tennessee and an old bird blind on a swamp near my family home in Mississippi. Forgive the strange quote from Silvia Plath, I find that I relate so much to these words as I sort out my many different possibilities.

In The Mountains

We went on a road trip, this last month, and spent a few days traveling in the mountains. It's so easy to become lost in the "home" feeling of those great hills. I did not want to leave. Hey Ho- The Lumineers

Instagram Vol. 3

Instagram images from the past few months.

Recently, I have been quite busy and I hate that I can't spend more time with my blog. But with a new job opportunity comes a two hour commute half the week to and from New York from my home in Philadelphia. And so unfortunately this also means less time for photographing. :( So while I love my new job I detest my long bus rides and the little amount of extra time I now have. Everyone wish me luck! Hopefully I can survive long enough until our lease is up and my boy and I can decide rather or not its worth moving to the big city or not.

In the mean time please enjoy my silly iphone photos of my current escapades! :) Hopefully in a few weeks I'll have some new film to post- especially because of our forthcoming road trip to my hometown of Brandon, Mississippi to see my amazing younger sister graduate college! Congrats Victoria! :)
Delta Spirit- California (been listening to these guys for years- so excited to hear them on the radio now! :)

My photographing has slowed somewhat and I feel myself not performing up to par with my normal standards. Still, it is good that I produce work- even if it is not satisfying. Anyway, here are two frames from a new medium format roll I developed yesterday. It will have to do for now I guess.

Vagabond

I haven't forgotten this place, in fact I have been quite busy working on new things to improve it. :)
I have exciting news and I finally feel like I've awoken from this winter's hibernation. In the mean time, I adore Beirut and this song.

Bath On The Morning of March First

The first roll of film I've shot in months. It felt strange to have film in a camera again- and I had forgotten how much I loved peering through the viewfinder of a medium format camera. I'm not completely satisfied with these first images but the feeling of contentment after taking a photo is a welcoming emotion to have again.

A week or two ago the weather turned especially chilly and we welcomed the first snow of the new year. Although I live in the city (Philadelphia to be exact), we are lucky to be close to a large National Park only 45 minutes away by car. City snow is just not as pretty as snow in the forest so we drove out one afternoon and trudged around until our feet were numb from the cold.

1) Me, with a pitiful look because I was so cold. :/ 2) View of Valley Forge along with two souls brave enough to go jogging. 3) A boarded up bathroom on the outskirts of the forest. 4)Deer tracks in front of the cabin.

Monday- Landscapes

The Alabama Shakes- Boys And Girls Image from a few weeks ago when snow finally came to see us. In the height of winter I start to crave my hometown and the warm sunny weather of the southern United States. The Alabama Shakes are perfect for chasing away the winter blues!

Thursday- Walks

Recently, I realized my hair's so long that I can pull it up into a bun without a hair tie. I don't know, for some reason that makes me really happy.

1) View of the bridge near my apartment. 2&3) My silly hair tricks. 4) The ring Jeff gave me for my birthday that was made right here in Philadelphia. 5) View of a house on our walk.
